Recap (black band). — Yeonhwa was confined to the annex. Sol-i woke but still cannot walk. The head court lady found a purse among the serving girl's things.

The same afternoon. The confrontation at the guest annex. The serving girl kneeling before the table, Yeonhwa opposite, the head court lady with the list, Chaeryeong beside a guard. — The same afternoon. The confrontation at the guest annex. Chaeryeong had been summoned for questioning, and Yeonhwa was allowed out only for this.
Yeonhwa asks the girl about the tea order and the order to harm as two separate things. Cold anger — slow, one word at a time. — Yeonhwa: "She told you to bring the tea. Did she tell you to put something in it?" The two must be asked separately. They divide into two people giving orders.
The girl lowers her head. Small, head down. / (hands) The head court lady sets the purse on the evidence table. — Serving girl: "She did not say that." Head court lady: "Where did this money come from?"
Chaeryeong, brought in with a guard, speaks first. Fast and bright — performing goodwill. / The girl looks at the sealed pouch beside the purse. Chaeryeong looks away. — Chaeryeong: "I gave it to her. For her sister's medicine." She was performing goodwill.
(hands) Yeonhwa's hand goes to the pouch. No words. / (hands) She unseals the pouch and spreads the cloth out — the embroidered edging. Her mother's stitches. — What she would not touch in Ep. 17, Yeonhwa now touches for the first time. Ep. 16, the pouch on the wall road. The same embroidery.
Yeonhwa to Chaeryeong. Cold anger — low and slow. A grain of dry laughter on the second sentence. — Yeonhwa: "You cut this cloth out of your dowry. It is Mother's embroidery."
Chaeryeong. Looking toward the head court lady rather than Yeonhwa. Thinning — for the first time it goes high, fast. — Chaeryeong: "It was only to make her ill for a while… I never meant to kill anyone."
The serving girl drops to her knees. It pours out of her. Collapsing — fast, the end small. / (new) Chaeryeong's face as she listens to the confession. No words. — Serving girl: "Change the tea, and put the pouch in the box. She paid me and I did it."
Yeonhwa leans toward Chaeryeong. For Chaeryeong alone to hear. A whisper. — Yeonhwa: "Ill for a while? Sol-i is still lying down."
The Queen Dowager rules on the spot. A judgment — her voice rises once. Short and firm. — Queen Dowager: "The Yun house is barred from the palace for good." Queen Dowager: "Take her out by the servants' gate."
Chaeryeong's face — she is thrown by the ruling. She says nothing. / (new) The servants' gate closing. Sound only. — The servants' gate — the one she begged at in Ep. 16, asking to be allowed to stay. thud
Yi Heon to Yeonhwa. Low and warm. The second sentence is almost a smile. / (new) Yeonhwa rising — already turned toward the door. — Yi Heon: "The confinement is lifted. Go to Sol-i."
The treatment room. Sol-i on a mat. Yeonhwa runs in and drops to her knees. / (hands) Yeonhwa taking Sol-i's hand on the mat in both of hers. — The treatment room.
Sol-i. Trying to smile. Small and weak. — Sol-i: "It's lucky I drank it… isn't it?"
Yeonhwa shakes her head at once and holds her hand. On the edge of tears — her voice breaks and the tears do not fall. — Yeonhwa: "How is your being hurt lucky?"
(new) The two of them. Hands held. No words. — I never did say that word, lucky.
