(new) Morning. Before the Yun gate. A garrison guard opens it, and Yi Heon (grey plain clothes), Yeonhwa, Sol-i and Muyeong step through. — The next morning. The garrison's guard opened the Yun gate.
The Yun yard. Taesik blocks their way from the top of the high stone steps, shouting. Low angle (the same composition as Ep. 3). — Taesik: "Would you denounce your own father and put him in prison!"
Muyeong unfolds the deed of sale. Yeonhwa looks at her father rather than the paper. / (new · hands) The deed of sale in the sunlight — the red thumbprint. — Yeonhwa: "Why did you sell me?" My father's thumb.
Taesik reaching to cover the document. Muyeong's hand blocks him. An excuse — fast, hands waving. / Yeonhwa does not give ground. Cold anger — one word at a time. — Taesik: "I did it to save you. I could not leave you beside that beggar." Yeonhwa: "By selling me to a courtesan house?"
(new) Chaeryeong standing behind her father at the top of the steps, looking down from behind the rail. / Taesik's eyes fix on Sol-i beside the guard. — Chaeryeong was standing behind her father.
(new) Sol-i beside the guard. She shrinks under his stare. / Taesik comes down the steps and raises his hand toward Sol-i. She flinches. — Taesik: "And what have you been babbling!"
(hands) Yi Heon's hand catching Taesik's wrist in midair. A grey sleeve. / Yeonhwa standing in front of Sol-i. She asks exactly what she heard the day before — slowly, looking into her father's eyes. — caught Yeonhwa: "Did you shut Mother in because she meant to speak about the stolen rice too?"
Trying to pull his wrist free, he shouts at Yi Heon. His voice cracks on the last word. — Taesik: "This is my household. How dare a beggar!"
Yi Heon hands the wrist to a guard and faces Taesik. The beggar's posture is gone. The king's voice (in the open). — Yi Heon: "Arrest Yun Taesik." The king's voice — for the first time, in front of everyone.
(new) Yeonhwa's face as she hears the order. / Muyeong instantly at Taesik's side. The title her family hears for the first time. — I heard the king's voice in front of my father. Muyeong: "Yes, Your Majesty."
(new) The guards close around Taesik. The yard, wide. / Taesik and Chaeryeong looking again at the familiar face in plain clothes. Chaeryeong misses her footing at the bottom of the steps and grabs the rail. — heavy steps Taesik: "Your… Majesty?"
(hands) Taesik's arms drawn behind him and actually bound. Insert of the cord. / (new · hands) Sol-i's hand gripping Yeonhwa's sleeve.
Yi Heon standing guard in front of Yeonhwa and Sol-i. / Taesik changing his voice to call his daughter. "Daughter" for the first time. He puts out a hand — bound, so only his body leans. — Taesik: "Daughter. Your father did not know."
(new) Yeonhwa's face — before she answers. From brow to chin.
Yeonhwa does not take the hand. The lowest, slowest calm in the whole story. — Yeonhwa: "You knew I was your daughter." That day was the first time he called me daughter.
The same steps, the same angle — the bound Taesik led down them by the guards. — The height of the steps had been reversed.
(new) Yi Heon watching Taesik led away, then turning his head toward Yeonhwa. / Chaeryeong's face at the rail. A face falling apart. No words. — The king stood beside Yeonhwa to the end.
(new) The steps, now empty. The yard, wide. The three of them going out through the gate are small, seen from behind. — There was no one standing on the Yun steps.
