(new) In front of the thatched house. Two garrison soldiers check the house first and withdraw; Muyeong takes his place at the door. / (new · hands) Yeonhwa's hands lifting the loose floorboard and taking out the navy ledger. — The next morning. The soldiers checked the house first. I took it out with my own hands, not another's.
(new) Yi Heon at the threshold. He does not come in; he waits. / Inside. Yeonhwa with the ledger from under the floor on her lap. She does not open it. The door is shut. — Yi Heon: "May I come in?" A king asked leave at the door of a thatched house. After the soldiers had checked the house, Yeonhwa took the ledger out from under the floor herself. Yeonhwa: "Did you choose me because of this book too?"
Yi Heon does not look away. His voice drops a little on the second sentence. / (hands) Yeonhwa's hand tight on the cover of the ledger. — Yi Heon: "I went to investigate the Yun house. Choosing you was my own will." Yeonhwa: "Was the name Mujin a lie as well?"
He stops the foot that was about to step closer. Slow and warm — he does not excuse himself. / Yeonhwa. In her own thoughts. — Yi Heon: "Only the name was a lie. Everything else was true." I hated the man who had lied. And the rice he had halved with me made me hate it more.
(new · memory) The table from Ep. 4 — two bowls at the same height. / (new) The two of them sitting in silence. The ledger on her lap. Neither speaks first. — Husband and wife take half each — the night she said that. For a long time neither of them spoke.
The door opens a hand's width, and Muyeong passes by outside, hauling a man he has caught (brown sleeve, seen from behind). / Yeonhwa recognizes the man's profile. When the door closes she looks at Yi Heon. A dry voice. — A Yun servant had followed them as far as the thatched house. "By any means" was still alive. Yeonhwa: "So you knew about my father's doing as well."
Yi Heon explains briefly. Low, only the facts. — Yi Heon: "He was caught up in the theft of the rice."
Yeonhwa pulling her torn left sleeve back over her arm. She does not take the hand offered her. Cold anger → a waver on the second sentence. — Yeonhwa: "I knew nothing at all." Yeonhwa: "You should have told me first."
Yi Heon withdraws his hand and apologizes. Slow, low — sincere. "I am sorry" is almost a whisper. / (hands) She opens the ledger — the gesture that separates helping the investigation from deciding about the two of them. — Yi Heon: "I should have. I am sorry." The apology was accepted. That and this book are two different matters.
She sets the ledger between them. A decision. / Yi Heon nods without pulling the book toward him. Not a king but a man who is to be a husband. — Yeonhwa: "I will show you the ledger. Let us put off the wedding." Yi Heon: "It is yours to decide." It was not a king's answer. It was the answer of a man who meant to be a husband.
She points at the part where her mother recorded a trading partner and speaks toward the door — back in a working voice. / (new · hands) A finger on one line of the open ledger — her mother's handwriting. — Yeonhwa: "Please bring Sol-i, who was at my mother's side." Her mother's handwriting. The name of the person who had been with her was there.
Muyeong at the threshold. For the first time he shows the king full courtesy — short; he is gentle only to the king. — Muyeong: "Yes, Your Majesty."
Close on Yeonhwa. The face of someone who has actually heard the words "Your Majesty." Her hand on the ledger. — Your Majesty. I heard it with my own ears for the first time.
(new) Outside the door. Muyeong gives a short order to a soldier — go to the Yun house and bring Sol-i, but ask her own wish first. — Muyeong: "Bring Sol-i of the Yun house. Ask what she wants first."
