Yeonhwa looks at Chaeryeong, not at the cup. Calm is a weapon. / Doyun glancing sideways at her, half a sneer. — Yeonhwa: "And I always paid for that comfort." The one who gave way always paid; the one who received was always comfortable. Doyun: "All you count is money — you know nothing of my heart."
Almost a smile. She lets the end fall. / (hands) She shifts her grip on the bundle at her feet. Through the knot, the corner of a navy ledger shows. — Yeonhwa: "I may not know hearts, but I know what is owed." slide
A low table from above. The only paper in this episode is the betrothal deed. / Doyun glaring at the bundle. — The betrothal deed — the promise between two houses.
Doyun on his feet. An order. / (hands) A navy sleeve's hand seizing a white sleeve's wrist. — Doyun: "That money never happened." grab
Doyun pulls the wrist and brings his face close. A threat close to a whisper. Yeonhwa does not look away. / Yeonhwa pulling her wrist free. Their breath mixes but she finishes the sentence. — Doyun: "You are mine. Even now." Yeonhwa: "It was money I paid in your place."
(hands) An empty hand presses over the inner lapel. No paper is visible. — A betrothal ends; a debt remains. What he owes me, I remember.
Her gaze fixed on Chaeryeong. She does not look at Doyun. Two sentences set apart. — Yeonhwa: "Take the man." Yeonhwa: "Pay the debt."
(hands) She tears the wide deed on the table in one motion. / The torn deed falls onto the table. Chaeryeong and Doyun frozen. — riiip
Father standing in the doorway — his face for the first time. Above the threshold, one step higher, looking down. He has not spoken yet. — Yun Taesik. Master of the Yun merchant house. My father.
Taesik's face. He reads it out like a house rule, without feeling. / Yeonhwa swallowing her words. — Taesik: "There is no room here for a daughter whose match is broken." No room. In the house where I have lived twenty-four years.
Not a request but a notice. / Medium shot from the side. Taesik's right hand strikes Yeonhwa's left cheek — once. No close-up of the mark. — Yeonhwa: "I will take my mother's things." smack

Taesik brushing off his hand. / Yeonhwa standing on unsteady feet. Tears pooled, not falling. — Taesik: "Go out empty-handed." I did not cry. If I cried, this house would take that too.
From the side, toward the yard. A servant (seen from behind) throws the white bundle he has carried out of Yeonhwa's room from the veranda into the dirt. / The bundle comes loose as it lands. A navy book slides out of the gap. — thud
Yeonhwa's face — she looks at the ledger in the dirt. Behind her, out of focus, Chaeryeong touches the pin in her hair and smiles. / The navy ledger, come to rest on the ground. — My mother's ledger was lying in the dirt.
Outside the gate. Mujin turns his head toward the sound. — Even outside the gate, that sound carried.
